    • Maybe, if it's done right and doesn't mess with my competitive shooter.

.......Idiots going bananas in tanks may drop the authentic feel a little

Those of us from the Wolf ET Community who wanted vehicles never wanted to drive them, Crackles. This type of scenaro is all we wanted:

Mais, c'est la vie...... :)

ok better but still not my preference

Can you request the forum admin to have your username switched to 'TheManWithBadIdeas'? J/K ;)

This isn't going to be something like Battlefield. Vehicles in a fast-paced competitive shooter are like...one of the worst things that could be added imo.

Agreed, no vehicles please. Idiots going bananas in tanks may drop the authentic feel a little

Well WWII without vehicles drops the authenticity even more. :)

You can call this game a "tactical shooter" or "squad based combat" or you could call it anything you want, once people get ahold of it online it's going to be a run and gun spray fest.

Vehicles can ruin game play if you let it.

Some ways to cure that are not having vehicles on all maps.

Making it so the vehicles don't respawn.

Making sure the map has enough bazookas, satchels, etc to combat tanks.

With no vehicles, this is just cod2 with nicer graphics.

We have no intentions of 'beating' COD2, we'd just like to give it a makeover and revitalize it.

Kinda what this game is going for.

The same reason we shouldnt have killstreaks,

it takes away from the raw gun skill and map movement.

Huge no from me

+1

I don't believe that there are people out there who can't understand. They maybe don't know the difference. Maybe they should play some more years to get it known.

And the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory players feel the same about your point of view when it comes to NOT including vehicles, Guru :) .

It's all a matter of personal preference, different likes/dislikes, when it comes to FPS gaming. When the game modding starts, the vehicles will appear and we'll be hoping to include and use them in the same mode as Wolf ET ;) .

I played more over 2000h 1942, BF 2, 3 and 4. I like vehicles, but they must be compatible with the game concept.

And for competitive gaming sometimes less vehicles are more :-P

Exactly, bro 8-) . Even in Wolf ET we don't use our vehicles in every map. Some maps are simply, "boots on the ground", only :) .

My view is that this is an infantry based shooter and the focus should be remain there.

But never the less, for variety, I'd would like to see the option for select vehicle types for certain game modes / maps maybe CTF with kettenkrads, jeeps, half tracks etc.

But as a rule I don't fancy hiding from a King Tiger in the Battle of Carentan.

So focus on the core infantry game please.

Hey that was my first post :D

Last I checked there were tanks in World War 2 no?

If this is just a cod2 with prettier graphics I want no part of another spray and pray fest.

And it will have a short shelf life.

Like I said for those anti-tank spray and prayers have a simple server option "allow vehicles"

Well, who would've expected that a CoD2 remake is just another CoD remake.

Vehicles on public matches would be fine as long as they were relatively weak and are limited to ground vehicles only; air units ruin ground combat and make it really dull as there's not much you can do against them as a tank or infantry ground unit in WW2. Also limit things like artillery and the like, it would be authentic but it wouldn't fit the game play all that well in my opinion.

On CoD United Offensive the vehicles were great as the maps were perfectly designed to have them be limited to certain routes or roads so they can't just go wherever they want. The vehicles were also relatively weak and only required one or two rocket shots and you were able to pick up these rocket launchers in a lot of places around the map, rather than having dedicated classes or weapon slots for them.

As for competitive play I don't think that vehicles would work, the type of combat just doesn't match e-sport play styles and it's a lot more skillful in the sense of requiring tactics and strategy to win and a lot of the combat would be more close combat than the vehicle based combat. By having both in the game there could be quite a big player base, but the player base could also be split between those who want vehicles and those who do not and the developers would have to make different types of maps for it.

If a set of modding tools and map making tools are released then the game can have vehicles and such added in by modders.

Well I should clarify a little.

As for vehicles I was only speaking of land vehicles.

Also very important besides the "allow vehicles" server option is the game type.

If your playing death match or team death match, or ctf, then vehicles should not be a part of that.

I was referring to game modes where vehicles were integral to the game, base assault for example.

A tank death match would be great too.

All the descriptions and ideas Bulkhead have put forward about the style of the game and its direction all point towards the maps simply not having the scale to fit vehicles, except maybe for an "on rails" vehicle escort mode as some have suggested.

If they put in vehicles they would be across the other side of the map in 20 seconds...and larger vehicles wouldn't fit around most of the alleyways and smaller streets.

To quote from their kickstarter:

"Battalion 1944 is an infantry based first person shooter with an emphasis on raw skill. No grinding, no 'exosuits', just you and your skill as a player."

Whilst a reasoned discussion is fine, quoting everyone who disagrees and saying something along the lines of "why?" to people disagreeing is unnecessary, because the why is answered in their own description of their game.

*Edit*

Just to add...there will be mod tools for the game. I'm sure somebody who mods will come up with some sort of larger maps with vehicles eventually, but I don't think it matches Bulkhead's vision for the base game

I'm so glad the majority said no!

Why?

They don't need it and don't want it, yet.

And they understood what the devs want and they love this kind of game. They won't make another Battlefield 1942... (Maybe it can change in future, but it took huge development ressources (modelling etc) and balancing...)

UO had vehicles ,Kursk,Kharkov,foy,Italy,rhinevalley,ponyri

To name the bigger maps ,worked well, just limit the number based on map sizes, and I realise this doesn't work for all just my opinion ,and not every map has to have them,
