Convoy Escort - A new GAMEMODE idea

There was a similar gametype on Brink. It was interesting.

Idea about animation, i m  not modder but it should be a good compromise between what you can do and what exist yet in the game if it is doingable : you could force the player to be in crouch position near the tank and disable its weapon while it is reparing with the circle scroll animation.

This way when the opposant team see a player near the tank in crouch position and without weapon they know he is repairing the tank. Charge for his partners to protect him.

my2cents. :P

Hey Ryan

This is a great Idea! I Like it !!

Question: Should the repairing only be able to be done by 1 or 2 certain classes. (Forgive me I can't remember if there are going to be classes in Battalion 1944)

Example: Only soldiers can repair and snipers, Field  Ops and others Can Not. This will force Snipers and other classes to do their job by covering etc.

Thanks for your 2 CENTS...THIS IS GOOD GUYS KEEP THE IDEAS COMING!!

There won't be classes as far as I know. :) So limiting the repair to certain classes can not be done.

Yep, especially now in "Battalion", where there will be no artillery or smoke barrages. The bolt-action and sniper rifle lads in your Clan have to be at the top of their game in order to cover the rest of the squad, or the squad will be "dead meat", as they try to cap/repair/destroy an objective.

I see what you're saying about the tank, make it a sort of "cap point" when it has to being repaired. No "repair" animation required. I never thought of that. We'd need a tank "destroyed/damaged" animation, but we already have that available with the Tiger Tank model we have. It's this one, created by the very talented ischbinz: Tiger Model .

However, I don't think we can use this model in the UE4 engine, we'll probably end up buying one from TurboSquid or CGTrader, somewhere like that.

This happens already in "Day of Infamy", when it comes to capping an enemy point. The more of us on the point, the quicker it caps, especially if some of your squad are carrying radios. We've become so effective at this as a squad that we've actually had to edit our "Day of Infamy" server "config" in order to slow it down a little more, otherwise we're to

Ok then anyone can repair....guess teams just have to work out who will provide cover and who will repair. Thanks for letting me know Alomvampir!

But we can do something to make this limitation work. If there is some kind of tool. A wrench or something, that you have to pick up before repairing. It would cause that the weapons would be disabled for the soldier who picked it up and the enemy could see the man with the wrench reapiring the tank because of a little animation (like in Heroes & Generals). It would provide more teamplay aswell, because the attackers should get the wrench from another part of the map, basically deliver the newbie "engineer" back to the tank/supply truck and cover him until he repairs the vehicle.

Ya I Like it!

There could be field supply boxes scattered around the maps that you have to run to open and get back to the tank and repair it. These field boxes could also hold other items too( haven't though out what items yet), Careful though the enemy can booby trap or place mines around them! That would add another element to the game so the soldier just can't run up to the boxes without thinking or scanning around the area first.

That's a nice addition. I like this idea too. For the other tools, I'll think about that and edit this post if I come up with any idea.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • additional grenades
  • additional primary and secondary ammunition
  • a flamethrower maybe (might be a bit OP, just an idea)

Thanks Alomvampir!

Excellent Ideas for other items in supply boxes. And no I don't think a flame thrower is over powered....I'm sure it can be tweaked just right adjusting flame distance, width and intensity. Supply boxes should (maybe) have a limited supply of items so they don't become crutches for players who just fritter there own ammo and nades unnecessarily. In real battle your only given a certain amount of supplies...use wisely . But we mustn't forget about the wrench fr repairing the tank!

Absolutely. We need to limit the number of supplies gained each game. :)

Well you could avoid the repair animation completely and use a sound, so in respect of a Tank silent when its broken... when enough people are around it or the right class is next to it you hear the tank trying to start its engine... if the engineer survives long enough the tank is repaired and the engine sound changes to a running engine! and the tank moves again until such time as its no longer escorted or its damaged again whatever you prefer...

I like the idea of doing the repair with sounds. Not bad..not bad.....

I absolutely Love the sound Idea!! The turning over sound of a diesel engine will carry a log way letting teammates know what state the tank is in if they are far from the area.

Hey Dogster...I was told there were no classes in this game....just letting you know. Great Idea with the sounds though. Also,  when the tank is disabled smoke can be billowing from the rear end and can be see for a good distance.

Glad you like the Idea too Alomvampir!

Cheers Guys

Well i know for many the idea of a repair animation was not popular but i thought a class related repair with sound  or even a group say 3-4 players standing by the tank would trigger the repair The tank would effectively be a capture point and the time it takes would be related to the repair level required and the engine noises would be the audio animation...  lots of possibilities its just how and if its possible to implement in this engine!

Sounds good to me, m8. I let Jared see our Tiger Tank model and asked him if we can convert it for use in "Day of Infamy", he says it can be done :) .

@ThunderWolf:

Here's a screenie of a castle roof in one of our new Clan maps, created for "Day of Infamy" by Modtools:

Castle Roof Defences

That's what we want for Castle Wolfenstein too, as far as destroyable objectives are concerned.

But we have to keep in mind that it should not be that complicated.

And yes, the tank basically works as a "mobile capture point" which can be only "captured" when disabled, so when it stops.

Unrealy Engine 4 can be used for several great things, even we would be able to make something like this with a bit of research and tutorials. :)

Exactly! I would like to see more "mobile capture points" in games and equipment escorted, guided or carried to objectives that without that "device" the building or area can't be infiltrated. This makes for real tug-o-War game play.and with out team work your goals can't be reached. There are WAY to many games out there that are just run around and shoot each other quick as you can so you can level up...frankley I'm kinda sick of it and need to reconnect with like minded people who really know what real teamwork feels like...It's Kick- Ass!! Just Ask WolfEnstein...He knows...oh Ya!!

Later Alom!.

:D Just realized now that the latest DOOM game has a capture gamemode, where the cpature point is moving across the map. I don't know what they have to do with the point after they've captured it, but I'll have a look around, that's for sure. :)

Later Wolf!!

The other aspect of this is it really will engender team play, because for instance if there are classes you will have to protect the engineer until tank is moving again... And if it's a team repair by a group if one dies the repair won't complete or could slow down. Depends very much what type of play you wish to encourage.

Hey Dogster

The more we can encourage team play and instill it in people that your Buddies are whats important and the Soldier who is willing to put themselves in harms way by trying to repair or move the tank or objective. WW2 Games need to make people feel like they have an important role in the squad, they care about their Buddies and their Buddies care about them. The Allies didn't win the war by caring about some Fat Cat in the Nations Capital handing out orders while he sipped on Brandy, the Allies Cared about their Buddies and working through something horrific and staying alive and getting back home. Now, the reason I went serious for a moment in this description is to make a point in what these types of games are lacking and it's the personalisation of team play that make WW2 games great. I believe this makes people come back to play time after time. I know its a game but today's player bounces around from one game to the next. I played Enemy Territory exclusively because I wanted to be a part of my Clan and celebrate our wins and losses together ...it was some intent shit and we had a blast because we grew as a team and cared about one another.

So that being said weather we have classes or just individual soldiers repairing the tank, the important thing is to protect that player and work as a unit to accomplish the goal. Keeping players coming back time after time is what its all about and its the emotion of the gameplay not only the fun.

Rock on!

!

Amen to all you said Thunderwolf....  we are ET vets too pretty much from day 1.... its the only game i can think of that promoted that kind of game play,,,  you needed all classes to complete most missions...  the best maps required it... but then im preaching to the converted!

Thanks Alom!

I know it was winded but without the emotion in a war game were all just playing Wack-A-Mole really :D

Well this kind of mode would definitely suit the more community based gamers because it engenders teamplay I don't believe it would suit the more competitive because unless there was a perk/reward for repairing no competitive guy would risk a death to help it's been the same in every game...... But for teamplay it's a no brainier in my opinion Day of infamy got it right with the officer/radioman ethic so you had to stick together ... This could be Bat44's unique cooperative selling point.
