I really like that idea for the "personal level", Duke B|.

haha thanks :) and thanks for everyone else who likes the idea. I am still unsure of the team ranks :/

AND I JUST GOT THE IDEA !!!! The title of the game sparked it :)

Competitive Team names:

(lowest to highest) These are from the structure of a traditional army group/region

Fireteam

Squad

Platoon

Company

Battalion

Regiment

Brigade

Division

Corps

Field Army

Army Group

Region

Now you can cut them down to 5 to end at Battalion to have some sort of symbolic feel to the game itself :) so in the end it would be Fireteam, Squad, Platoon, Company, and Battalion. Though if there are 5 divisions in the ranking system there should be sub ranks within each one. I don't like it to be Fireteam 1, 2, and 3....needs to have something cooler than that. Any suggestions?

(P.S.) If anyone asks to themselves "why doesn't he just delete the start and just say the idea", this is why. I like to show my train of thought haha

I really like that idea, gives a really good meaning to the game's name.

Tough passing from a Fireteam with 5 players to a Battalion with the same 5 players would be strange. But it's really only a name so...

Lower then Fireteam could be Group, Highschool Besties, Schoolyard kids lol

Thanks!!

Its just a name, most people who are newbies won't even know what a fireteam is lol or how its structured. Though it can be though of how a specific clan or group will grow and turn into that "battalion" but i see what you are saying.

These are good suggestions!

We'll be finalising the competitive ranks in January so our UI guys can work on implementation, so keep the ideas coming until then!

As an CoD 2 and MoH:AA player of the first hour my sugesstions are these:

Personal Ranks:

Back to the roots. Personal Ranks should be the real Army ranks like told before.

U.S. Ranks:

  1. Private
  2. Private First Class
  3. Corporal (Technican Ranks can be added for more ranks)
  4. Sergeant (Technican Ranks can be added for more ranks)

  6. First Sergeant (Technican Ranks can be added for more ranks)
  7. Master Sergeant
  8. Second Lieutenant
  9. First Lieutenant
  10. Captain
  11. Major
  12. Lieutenant Colonel
  13. Colonel
  14. Brigadier General
  15. Major General
  16. Lieutenant General
  17. General (Like in BF2, only a hand full of people / in proportion to community, can gain this rank)

German Ranks:

  1. Schütze
  2. Oberschütze
  3. Gefreiter
  4. Obergefreiter
  5. Obergefreiter im 6. Jahr
  6. Stabsgefreiter
  7. Oberstabsgefreiter

  10. Oberfeldwebel

  18. Oberst
  19. Generalmajor
  20. Generalleutnant
  21. General
  22. Generaloberst
  23. Generalfeldmarschall (Like in BF2, only a hand full of people / in proportion to community, can gain this rank)

Officer Cadet / Fähnrich can be added to split NCOs and COs and gain one more Rank.

Matchmaking Ranks: (Try to stay in a line of a soldiers progress -> i.e. Paratrooper or Ranger is no progress instead of Battle proven or battle hardened, except of things like ,,recruit", ,,replacement" and ,,reserve". These titles suggest a certain training standard)

  1. Recruit
  2. Replacement
  3. Reserve soldier
  4. Baptism by fire ? (Sorry for english)
  5. Battle proven
  6. Battle scarred
  7. Battle Hardened
  8. Frontschwein (German word for: A battle scarred, proven and hardened soldier, who survived and fought for a long time and recieves the freshman at the battlefield and leads them for a while)
  9. Honored
  10. Hometown Hero
  11. Role model
  12. Leader
  13. Ritterkreuzträger / Medal of Honor
  14. Warhero
  15. Battaillon's Elite

And especially for the Team names i really like and love DukeNukem's idea !!!

Should be historical military ranks, but listed depending on the nationality that you are fighting in, US=Sgt First Class, Brit = Staff Sgt, SS = Sturmscharfurher, etc.

This would give it authentic, rather than a novelty feel.

  1.  Top 100
  2.  Top 500
  3.  Top 1000
  4.  Legendary
  5.  Field Champion
  6.  War Hero
  7.  Well-known
  8.  Decorated Soldier
  9.  Veteran
  10.  Adept Soldier
  11.  Marksman
  12.  Gunner
  13.  Scout
  14.  Rookie
  15.  Private

I feel a top tier for the best of the best is necessary, especially if it is aiming at a highly competitive audience and the casual gamer. So you have ranks that suit those who play a lot & those that are the best.

Also would be great to have options for best stat e.g Top 1% in KD or something like that as a bonus somewhere whether it be on a dogtag or a medal you can wear on your soldier.

You should think about 3 things:

1. it needs to be possible to create images that are both easy to determine what rank you are as good looking (the lower you are the ulgier and more plain).

2. the rank you have needs to make clear how good you are.

3. create "tiers". in CSGO you have different tiers: silver, gold, master gardian, eagles, supreme and global.

4. as for the rank names themselves. I would NOT use army ranks, because they are too confusing. Or limit them. So maybe something like this:

1. Recruit1
2. Recruit2
3. Recruit3
4. Battle Hardened1
5. Battle Hardened2
6. Battle Hardened3
7. Battle Expert
8. Veteran
9. 1 Star Veteran
10. 2 Star Veteran
11. 3 Star Veteran
12. 4 Star Veteran
13. Legendary Soldier
14. Legendary Commander
15. World Class Specialist

tier1 = recruit, tier2: battle hardened, tier3: veteran, tier4: legendary tier5: World Class Specialist

Yeah I like the tier systems and within the tiers there's 1-3/4. It's pretty much standard in all other ranking systems and it gives people some form a familiarity.

Something what you could think that any member of platoon could say about someone or describe someone. Also some kind of indication about order of them as in CS:GO (Silver 1-4 etc.).

  1.  The Legend
  2.  War hero
  3.  Elite
  4.  Distinguished Veteran
  5.  Seasoned Veteran
  6.  Veteran
  7.  War Adept
  8.  Battle Hardened
  9.  Battle Scarred
  10.  Battle Proven
  11.  Distinguished Serviceman
  12.  Seasoned Serviceman
  13.  Serviceman
  14.  Replacement Man
  15.  Greenhorn

Something along these lines...

I like the above list that Datamursu did. In addition to that, I am also partial to using actual military ranks. I would say though from the original list, that if you use Marksman, instead of using Elite Marksman you use the next higher title which would be Sharpshooter. You could take it one step further and use Expert above that. Also, on the bottom end of the titles you could use FNG ( F**cking New Guy) which is what we used in the military....lol.

Hello, your Battalion 1944 game is suppose to be a realistic tactical FPS.  This being the case, I would suggest using the realistic standard rank structure of most militaries, i.e.

1. Private

2. Corporal

3. Master Corporal

4. etc.

Please don't use unrealistic silly names like "Super Sergeant" that do not mean anything like Battlefield.

On a side note, I watched the trailer and I noticed the avatar soldiers look very stiff when they are running.  They do not have the natural movement of a human being.  Please reconsider this movement as the human-eye picks up on the cardboard cutout movement and notes it as unrealistic, which lessens immersion.

Thank you,

WP

Guys lets keep it civil.

We have rules here. Lets be respectful to one another and also try and do some research before commenting on certain things. We want to avoid going over the same things in different threads but lets not get mad at people if they ask a question.  They have to learn somehow!

For competitive ranks to be honest, I would just want simple bronze, silver, gold, platinum, master, grandmaster.

Almost every comp game has that so a lot of people already knew it. So no need to 'learn' rank names.
